Hi
I’m Sue, full time mum to two little girls. I really started to become interested in all things green when I was pregnant with my first daughter. I began thinking more carefully about the food we ate and the skin products we were using. Recently we have started composting our kitchen and garden waste and swapping to environmentally friendly household products. We’re slowly getting greener and greener!
How green am I?
Light green. We do a lot of green things – we recycle everything we possibly can, have used washable nappies right from the start with our first daughter (they are now being put to good use second time around!), and try to buy products with minimal packaging. However, I know there’s more we could do. I would love to buy more organic clothes for the girls and us, but sometimes our budget just doesn’t allow for things like that.
What is your favourite organic products website?
I love SoOrganic.com. They have a fantastic range of skincare products and lots of products suitable for babies and children too. It’s great to find lots of different green skincare ranges available in one place. Their philosophy is very clear and you know that when you buy a products from them it won’t contain any nasty chemicals.
What is your favourite organic products offline shop?
We live in quite a rural area so are fortunate to have several very good organic farm shops nearby. It’s great to buy locally and good to get to know the shop owners. I also find that farm shops are great for little children. My daughter loves counting potatoes into bags and putting things into our basket. I also love Waitrose. They have recently introduced lots of natural skin and hair care ranges and I was very impressed to see that they stocked Green People sun care products in the summer too.
What does eco-friendly mean to you?
Lots of different things. It means considering your impact on the environment and how you can help to preserve and protect our world now and for future generations. It also means making choices which consider the welfare of other people.
What is your best green tip?
Always think reusable and not disposable. There are so many things that you can use over and over again, from washable nappies to plastic food containers (rather than using plastic bags or tin foil). It really shocks me when I see the amount of disposable / one-use products in shops now – it’s such a waste!
